📖 Restoring the Truth from Scripture, Not Tradition
🚫 Where Did This False Idea Come From?
1️⃣ Confusion in Luke 7:36–50
An unnamed sinful woman anoints Yeshua’s (Jesus’) feet with tears and perfume.
She is called a "sinner", but her name is never given.
Mary Magdalene is NOT mentioned in this chapter.
2️⃣ Pope Gregory I (591 AD) – A Critical Error
Combined three separate women into one:
Mary Magdalene (Luke 8:2) – Had seven demons cast out.
The "sinful woman" in Luke 7 – Unnamed.
Mary of Bethany (John 11) – Sister of Lazarus.
Claimed Mary Magdalene was the sinful woman, implying she was a prostitute.
This was not based on scripture, but on assumption.
⚠️ Pope Gregory's sermon became church tradition, not biblical fact.
🎭 How the Lie Spread
Medieval art, literature, and church dramas painted her as a "fallen woman."
Movies, books, and pop culture repeated it without checking scripture.
Many assumed "demon possession = prostitution" — a false connection.
✅ What the Bible Actually Says About Mary Magdalene
📖 Luke 8:2–3
Yeshua cast seven demons out of her (not described as sin or prostitution).
She supported His ministry financially and faithfully.
📖 Matthew 27:55–56, Mark 15:40, John 19:25
She was present at the crucifixion and burial of Yeshua.
📖 John 20:1–18
She was the first to witness the resurrection.
Yeshua appeared to her first, and she became the first to declare “I have seen the Lord!”
🕊️ This makes her the very first witness to the risen Messiah.
❤️ Why This Matters
Calling her a prostitute distorts her legacy as a righteous, faithful disciple.
The Bible never once calls Mary Magdalene a "sinful woman" or links her to prostitution.
She is portrayed as loyal, healed, generous, courageous, and faithful to the end.
✝️ She was not a fallen woman—she was a faithful one.
✡️ Truth Over Tradition
🔹 The false story came centuries after the gospels, through a Greek-Roman church system that mixed scripture with assumptions.
🔹 But the Hebrew gospels (before they were filtered through Greek lenses) clearly separate these women.
✅ Mary Magdalene: Who She Really Was
🩸 Stood by Him at the cross (John 19:25)
🕊️ Witnessed the empty tomb (John 20:1)
